UA Rise (High School Coffee Shop) - Preapprenticeship
10 periods per week - up to 2 credits per year (repeatable class) Prerequisite: Must be 14 years old. Must be approved by CBIP teacher, high school counselor, and parent. Mode of delivery: In-personUA Rise is a pre-apprenticeship program which teaches basic technical and job-readiness skills that matriculate into a designated apprenticeship sponsored by the American Culinary Federation. Students are the owners/ managers/employees of our high school based coffee shop, UARise Cafe. The purpose of this course is to provide students with twenty-first century skills that are essential in today’s global society and is designed to provide students with a working knowledge of a small business. Students will also work on core competencies, including social and emotional skills, financial literacy, business readiness skills, ethics, safety skills, communication skills, entrepreneurial concepts, and problem solving and critical thinking. This pre-apprenticeship matriculates to Columbus State where graduates can qualify as a Certified Culinarian upon completion of an apprenticeship.
The pre-apprenticeship program at UARise is an alternate graduation pathway for seniors that offers 12 credential points (the year long program), 1 credential point (servsafe certification), and potential service seals. Students work at the student run coffee shop, gaining food service and hospitality experiences.

Teaching Professions I (includes EDUC 2210)
1.0 credit — Grades 11 & 12 Fall Semester: EDUC 2210 Spring Semester: Teaching Professions 1- Development(1 period per day for one year. Students must sign up for both semesters of Teaching Professions 1) Prerequisites: Columbus State Community College CCP Acceptance Teaching Professions I is comprised of two semester courses that will provide students with an overview of the K-12 teaching profession. Through course readings, writings, discussions, and observations, students will gain content knowledge that could help in deciding which area of education they may want to pursue. Topics of focus include curriculum planning, student engagement, classroom management, and assessment and feedback.
Teaching Professions II (includes EDUC 2220)
1.0 credit — Grade 12 Fall Semester: EDUC 2220: Education Technology Spring Semester: Teaching Professions 2: Management (1 period per day for one year. Students must sign up for both semesters of Teaching Professions II)Prerequisites: Columbus State Community College CCP Acceptance
Teaching Professions II is comprised of two semester long courses that ask students to take the knowledge learned in Teaching Professions I and apply it to the classroom. While the topics are similar to those in Teaching Professions I (curriculum planning, student engagement, classroom management, and assessment and feedback), students’ understanding of these ideas will be enriched through more sophisticated and frequent texts and observations. Students enrolled in this course will have the opportunity to observe and work in classrooms within the district.
